The missus says "Yes"

Welcome to my first blog ever!

This blog is used to document my attempt to design and build a freestanding bouldering wall in my back garden (with the express permission of my long suffering fiance).

Below is the original design brief:

  • Must conform to the "Moonboard" specification. Moonboard Design
  • Must be freestanding.
  • Must be waterproof.
  • Is able to be folded and kept  when not in use. (Optional dependant on design)
  • Can be adjustable from vertical to 40 degrees. (Optional dependant on design)

Background Info

Original idea came from having to constantly travel 45 minutes each way to the indoor wall, resulting in a major drain on the old budget due to increased petrol prices.

There will be a number of stages to jump through before any actual building commences:

  • Planning and design
  • Final design
  • Pricing materials
  • Sourcing tools
  • Foundation Work
  • Construction
  • Testing
Planning and Design

Following a recent post for help and advice on UKClimbing.com a number of users of the site have come up with their ideas and experiences of constructing an outdoor bouldering wall. The thread can be viewed here.

A BIG THANK YOU goes to parberoo, markwynneuk, and  Mike Mead.

After much debating between the fiance and I, we have settled on location:

As you can see, there will be some groundwork involved. Removing and relocating of the shed, clearing the soil at the side, and leveling out the required area. It will take some time......
